Compassionate Brainspotting Treatment
Sometimes, talking through your experiences is only one part of the healing process. While traditional therapy can be incredibly effective, there are times when difficult emotions, traumatic experiences, or chronic stress seem to remain stuck beneath the surface. Brainspotting is an innovative therapy approach designed to help access and process those deeper emotional experiences that may be difficult to reach through conversation alone.
At Access Health Services, we offer Brainspotting therapy as part of our commitment to providing personalized mental health care. Every person’s experiences are unique, which is why we tailor treatment to your individual needs, goals, and comfort level. Whether you’re working through trauma, anxiety, grief, or emotional challenges that have been affecting your daily life, Brainspotting may help you move toward lasting healing.
What Is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that helps identify, process, and release emotional experiences that may be stored deep within the brain and body. Developed from research on how the brain responds to trauma, Brainspotting is based on the idea that where you look can influence how your brain accesses unresolved emotional experiences.
During a Brainspotting session, your therapist helps you locate a specific eye position, known as a “brainspot,” that connects with an emotional or physical response. As you maintain focus on that point, your brain is given the opportunity to naturally process emotions, memories, and sensations that may have been difficult to fully work through in the past.
Unlike some forms of therapy that require you to talk extensively about every detail of your experience, Brainspotting allows your brain to do much of the work internally while your therapist provides guidance and support throughout the process.
How Brainspotting Works
Our brains have the ability to heal, but overwhelming experiences can sometimes interrupt that natural process. Trauma, chronic stress, and emotionally difficult events may leave the nervous system feeling stuck, even years after the experience has passed.
Brainspotting works by helping access the deeper parts of the brain where emotional responses are stored. Rather than focusing solely on thoughts or behaviors, this therapy encourages the brain to process unresolved experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable.
Throughout your session, your therapist will:
- Talk with you about your goals and current concerns.
- Help identify an area of emotional focus.
- Guide you in locating a Brainspot connected to that experience.
- Check in with you throughout the session to make sure you feel comfortable and supported.
- Create a calm, supportive environment while your brain processes the emotions that arise.
Every session is different because every person’s healing journey is different. Some people notice meaningful progress after only a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing treatment as part of a larger therapy plan.
Who Can Benefit from Brainspotting?
Brainspotting has been used to help individuals experiencing a range of emotional and psychological challenges. It may be recommended as a stand-alone therapy or combined with other evidence-based approaches depending on your needs.
Brainspotting may help individuals experiencing:
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Depression
- Panic attacks
- Grief and loss
- Low self-esteem
- Emotional overwhelm
- Relationship challenges
- Performance anxiety
- Childhood trauma
- Life transitions
Many people seek Brainspotting after feeling like they’ve made progress in traditional therapy but continue experiencing emotional triggers or physical stress responses that are difficult to explain. This approach can sometimes reach areas that talk therapy alone has not fully addressed.
What to Expect During Your First Appointment
Starting a new type of therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never heard of Brainspotting before. At Access Health Services, we take time to explain the process, answer questions, and make sure you feel comfortable before beginning.
Your first appointment is focused on getting to know you. We’ll discuss your symptoms, personal history, treatment goals, and determine whether Brainspotting is an appropriate option for your situation.
If Brainspotting is recommended, your therapist will carefully guide you through the process at a pace that feels right for you. There is never pressure to move faster than you’re comfortable with, and you remain in control throughout each session.
Some people experience emotional release during treatment, while others notice subtle shifts that become more apparent in the days following a session. Both experiences are completely normal, and your therapist will help you process whatever comes up along the way.
Brainspotting as Part of a Personalized Treatment Plan
Mental health treatment is rarely one-size-fits-all. That’s why we believe in creating individualized care plans that reflect your needs and goals.
Brainspotting may be combined with other therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), individual counseling, medication management, mindfulness techniques, or trauma-informed therapy. By combining different evidence-based treatments when appropriate, we can help support healing from multiple angles.
Our providers regularly evaluate your progress and make adjustments to your treatment plan as your needs change over time.

I've been using their services for years after being referred by a cardiologist. Since the pandemic, having access to tele appointments has been wonderful and convenient! It can take a while to find the right meds or combination of meds that work for you, but once you're able to identify that, the frequency of appointments and length of appointments does go down. At this point, it's relatively routine, painless, and convenient to maintain my prescriptions through tele-appointments. Dr. A listens to your concerns and isn't dismissive like some other doctors can be, which is really appreciated!
